Near East University celebrates “NEU World 2014”, an event organised to promote the cultural diversity of the university. Students from more than 25 countries took part in making the event a huge success. The university organises many cultural events and as always, this event created a sense of excitement for the large amount of students who participated.

NEU World (73) (Small)The event began with a student parade around the campus, with all students gathering outside the Grand Library. During the parade, the students proudly displayed their flags and sang their national songs, encouraging many students to join in the festivities along the way.

On a specially prepared stage outside the Grand Library, the NEU World 2014 host officially declared the start of the show and the gathered students released many balloons into the air. As the sky filled with colours, representatives from the various countries were invited to perform on stage. The performances included traditional dances from each country and a student band played to entertain the crowd.

NEU World (45) (Small)Following the show, a food contest took place whereby representatives from each country brought their traditional cuisine to the stage to be judged a panel of tasters. The Syrian students won this food competition and a trophy was awarded to them.

The award for the best decorated stall was presented to the students from Turkmenistan as they had devoted a great deal of time to perfecting the décor of their stall, which was appreciated by everyone. The students were very happy to receive such recognition from the university.

The event ended was rounded off by a DJ who whipped up the atmosphere to make the event truly memorable.
